Júlia Tygel is a Brazilian pianist and composer. She holds a PhD degree in music analysis, developed at São Paulo University (USP) with a visiting research scholar period at City University of New York (CUNY) as a Fulbright grantee. She concluded a master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at Campinas State University (UNICAMP), where she also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Composition. Her music combines a classical background with influences from popular Brazilian and modern music. In 2011 she recorded her first CD, “Júlia Tygel – Entremeados” (Intertwined), through a grant from Campina’s cultural department, which features her arrangements and compositions for chamber group, and has been showcased and performed at important venues dedicated to instrumental music in Sao Paulo and in New York. As a scholar, Júlia has presented and published several papers at conference annals in Brazil and abroad. She is currently a professor at Souza Lima College of Music in São Paulo, and long-distance professor at Federal University of São Carlos.
